The Hearth

We believe that sharing around a fire is fundamental to our wellbeing, we regularly practice fire lighting techniques and congregate around the fire to enjoy hot drinks and meals together.

The fire is the hearth and around it we create a space for sharing, it is a place where there is always light, food and protection. it is a nurturing place where everyone is an equal, sharing stories, singing, laughing, sometimes crying but always being heard.

My natural habitat is  outdoors - in a woodland or on a shore is where I feel calm, connected and happy.

Forest School and it’s ethos brings together all of the things I love and appreciate -

being in nature, life long learning, community, cooking, creativity, making, growing, curiosity, mindfulness. It’s an absolute joy to explore all these aspects alongside the learners and every session I learn something new.

FAQ

What is Good in The Wood?

Good in the Wood is a forest school based in Lochwinnoch within a private woodland. Our sessions are facilitated by trained Forest School practitioners.

On registration we will send you a copy of the Good in the Wood handbook, includes all our policies and procedures as well as our Risk Assessments which forms part of our welcome pack.

What are the toilet arrangements?

The woodland site has a porta-loo although we encourage everyone to use the toilet before the session where possible, so that everyone has more time to enjoy their time in the woods.

Can we accomodate additional support needs ?

In most cases we are able to incorporate a participant with ASN although you should inform us beforehand so that we can ensure the best experience, we have specific sessions which have a focus on supporting ASN, please contact us for more information.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellation and Postponement

In the case of extreme weather if no suitable alternative venue is available-
Good in the wood staff may need to cancel sessions at short notice, Where possible, these will be rescheduled or a place offered in another session.

In the case of staff ill-health every effort will be made to seek replacement staff or to reschedule. Where this is not possible a refund will be offered.

How many classes will there be?

The forest school ethos encourages regular access to nature, based loosely on the school terms.
We have found that young people have the best development through regular attendance to our sessions, this regularity develops a strong group dynamic building on the individuals self esteem which helps continuity in skill attainment which furthers the advancement and enjoyment of their experience overall.
